London Progress has announced two great new signings to add to its already
formidable British League squad. In its audacious attempt to win the British
League for an eighth consecutive time, the London based club has signed
European Cadet team gold medallist and individual silver medallist, Darius
Knight. Darius is one of England's most exciting young prospects and with
his recent success in the European Championships, Olympic participation in
2012 is a realistic prospect. At only fifteen years of age, and already ranked
in the English senior top ten, Progress are making a clear statement about
its future intentions.
The second summer signing for London Progress is Ireland's leading player
for the past two decades, Mr Colum Slevin. Whereas Darius brings youthful
dynamism to the team, Colum brings with him years of experience,
particularly from his many years playing in the highly competitive German
League. Colum, who already plays alongside Progress team captain, Jason
Sugrue, in the Irish National Team, will add yet another powerful dimension
to the British Club Champions. With England star, Terry Young remaining at
the Number One spot, supported by Cameroon No1 Marco Essomba, Jamaican No1
Darren Blake and former England Junior, Leeroy Pye, it will be a great team
that takes the title away from the Progress juggernaught.
Not all the action will be focused on the Men this season. In an attempt to
repeat the daring double of four years ago, Progress have reassembled their
Women's squad. The only member to survive from those heroic exploits is
former England star, Glenda Ashison. Glenda, a highly experiened player, will
lead the Progress team into action this season. Accompanying Glenda will be
London Progress assistant Secretary, junior coach and regular Progress and
Middlesex star, Egle Adomelyte. The final place will go to Japanese student
and Progress coach, Kaori Saijo.
Coming in as manager of the team will be a
man that knows something about creating champions; Glenda's father and
coach, Gideon Ashison. It was Gideon who coached and managed the Progress
women's tream the last time they entered the Women's British League and the
result was yet another national title for London Progress.
Who would bet
against Gideon and the girls doing it again this season?
