Progress B squad:
Garth Kinlocke, Raphael Marom, Tony Alvarez and Andrew Hagger
1st Match
London Progress B vs. Batts Team Peniel B
The team for this game was Garth, Rafi and Andrew. This was Andrew’s first experience at this tournament so he was very nervous. He overcame those nerves and won both his matches 3-0. Progress won the match only dropping 1 end.
2nd Match:
London Progress B vs. Byng Hall
Garth moved up to play for the first team so this team was Rafi, Tony and Andrew. This match was also 6-0 to Progress and was very comfortably win with Andrew winning (yet again) both his matches 3-0. Not bad for someone who had never been to this competition before.
3rd Match:
London Progress B vs. Rotherham Scorpions
The team was the same as the 2nd match as Garth would stay up with the first team. This remained the same for the rest of the weekend. This game was another Progress 6-0 victory and another 2 wins for Andrew 3-0. Progress only dropped 2 ends in this match which left us four points clear at the top of the table with only 4 points remaining but up next was the team that was second in the league, Kingfisher B
4th Match:
London Progress B vs. Kingfisher B
This was the first game on the Sunday morning and the players knew that a draw would be enough to crown them champions of this division. Progress won the first 2 games 3-0, 3-1. It was Andrew Hagger to play to win the league for Progress in his first weekend of competitive table tennis. He obliged Progres by winning 3-0 and had still not dropped a single end. Progress won the next 3 matches 3-0 to win 6-0 and only dropping 1 end to the team that was second . This shows how dominant this Progress team was.
5th Match:
London Progress B vs. Sunderland
Although this team was third the players regarded them as the second best team in the league and as we wanted to go through the whole season winning every game we felt we still had a tough job on our hands. This job was made easier by the fact that Sunderland only had 2 players so we only needed 2wins to go unbeaten throughout a whole season.
The match started off badly with Tony losing 3-2, the first progress loss of the weekend. The good news is that it was also the last loss as Rafi won both his games 3-2 and 3-0. Andrew was playing for his 100% record. He dropped his first end of the weekend but was not to be denied a win.
The final match score was: Progress 5 Sunderland 1 thereby winning the league by a massive 6 points with Rafi, Garth and Andrew all getting 100% records throughout the season.
This was a great ahievement for Andrew especially because it was his first outing in this big tournament.
