Polish TT champion dies of cancer

"WARSAW, Poland: Andrzej Grubba, considered Poland's best table tennis layer of the past 50 years, died Thursday aged 47 after a yearlong struggle with lung cancer. A three-time bronze medallist at world championships, Grubba also racked up 11 medals at the European Table Tennis Championship and 26 in the Polish championship.

Grubba retired nine years ago and is survived by his wife, a former Poland handball player, and two sons aged 14 and 20, according to Marek Rzemek, a trainer at the Polish Table Tennis Federation. "Andrzej was definitely Poland's best table tennis player since World War II," Rzemek said. "His greatest strength was his incredible endurance." There was no announcement about the funeral arrangements."
